We will work with mentorship programme The Kusp to identify diverse creatives to work at here for a week-long junior trainee programme, with access to pre- and post-production and Eleven’s writers’ room.
The Kusp is dedicated to serving under-represented creatives in the industry through masterclasses, portfolio review sessions and industry mentoring.
Co-founder Amos Eretusi said: “In the creative industry, who you know has a massive impact on the opportunities that you have access to, so those from privileged circles often get first dibs. Unfortunately, if you aren’t in these circles – generally ethnic minorities and other working-class talent – you go unnoticed and have to navigate the industry alone.”
According to the Creative Diversity Network, the proportion of minority ethnic talent working in production fell to 11.8% in 2020, from 12.3% the previous year, to remain below the UK workforce estimate of 13%. A report from McKinsey found that companies with greater ethnic diversity are 36% more likely to report above average financial returns.
Our co-founder Joel Wilson added that the partnership builds on his existing relationship with Amos. “What Anokhi [Sharma] and Amos are doing with the Kusp is incredibly important,” he said.
The programme starts on 1 September.
